The problem
AI got smart. The interface didn’t.
The model is no longer the bottleneck. The door is. Every interaction with the most capable intelligence ever built still starts the same way: unlock, find the app, look down, type.
Screen-first by default
Every request begins by looking down. Hands occupied, eyes captured, attention gone. For most of what people would ask, the cost of asking is higher than the answer is worth.
Ears sealed shut
Earbuds trade the room for the audio. You pick one: hear your assistant, or hear the world. Nobody wears them for sixteen hours, so nothing about them is always-on.
The replacement tax
The 2024 wave of AI devices asked people to abandon their phone, their apps and their assistant for a closed ecosystem. The market answered clearly.
How it works

A device you wear for sixteen hours only works if you believe it isn’t listening. So the second channel sits on its own bus, powered down, until you turn it on.

Does it replace my phone?
No, and that is deliberate. Your phone does the thinking and holds your accounts. Sonique is the way in and the way out when looking at a screen is the wrong thing to do: walking, driving, cooking, carrying something, in a meeting, in the dark.
Which assistant does it use?
Yours. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini. Whichever one you already talk to, on the account you already pay for. Our own Azather model and subscription are coming too, but they will always be a choice on top, never a wall: nothing to migrate, nothing you are locked out of.
Is it always listening?
The bone sensor reads your own voice and only your own voice, because it reads vibration in your skull rather than sound in the room. The ambient microphone, the one that could hear other people, sits on a separate bus that is powered down until you switch it on, and it goes dark again the moment you switch it off.
That separation is in the hardware, not in a settings screen. You can see it modelled in the trust section.
Can other people hear my audio?
No. Audio is driven through the bone rather than out into the air, so it arrives at your cochlea without passing through the room. The person beside you hears nothing, and your ear canal stays open to everything else.
Does it stay on when I move, sweat or shower?
It attaches with a gel-silicone membrane rather than a clamp, a hook or an adhesive, and the shell is sealed with no ports to protect. It is designed to be worn in the shower, at the gym and in the rain.
The screen was never the point.
It was only ever the way in. Sonique is the other door.
